The Institute has set up an Anti-Ragging Committee under the leadership of the Head of the Institute to ensure that measures for prevention of ragging and monitoring mechanisms are in place. There are also provisions for actions to be taken against students for indulging in and abetting ragging.

Responsibilities Of Anti Ragging Committee

On receipt of the recommendation of the Anti Ragging Squad or on receipt of any information concerning any reported incident of ragging, the Head of the institution shall immediately determine if a case under the penal laws is made out and if so, either on his own or through a member of the Anti Ragging Committee authorized by him in this behalf, proceed to file a First Information Report (FIR), within 24 hours of receipt of such information or recommendation, with the police and local authorities, under the appropriate penal provisions relating to one or more of the following, namely:

• Abetment to ragging
• Criminal conspiracy to rag
• Unlawful assembly and rioting while ragging
• Public nuisance created during ragging
• Violation of decency and morals through ragging
• Injury to body, causing hurt or grievous hurt
• Wrongful restraint
• Wrongful confinement
• Use of criminal force
• Assault as well as sexual offences or unnatural offences
• Extortion
• Criminal trespass
• Offences against property
• Criminal intimidation
• Attempts to commit any or all of the above-mentioned offences against the victim(s)
• Threat to commit any or all of the above-mentioned offences against the victim(s)
• Physical or psychological humiliation
• other offences following from the definition of “Ragging”

Responsibilities of Squads In-Charge of Anti Ragging Committee

• They will form duty chart & carryout regular checks for any Ragging activity in their areas.
• They will carry out surprise checks in probable areas of ragging.
• In case of any incidence noticed on the spot, assessment of the incidence be made and necessary action to be taken and inform the control cell immediately in given Performa.
• Ensure anti ragging instructions are displayed at prominent places in their areas of control.
• Each squad in charge will make a detailed duty plan in respect of his squad and forward a list copy of the same to the control room.
• Every squad in charge will brief all members of his squad about their duties/actions regarding anti-ragging.

Steps taken by the college for prevention of ragging at the institution level:

• Displays of ‘Ragging is totally prohibited in the institute and anyone found guilty of ragging and/or abetting ragging, whether actively or passively or being a part of conspiracy to promote ragging, is liable to be punished in accordance with UGC regulations on curbing the menace of ragging in higher education institutions, 2009, (Under section 26 (1) (g) of UGC Act, 1956), as well as under the provisions of any penal law for the time being in force’ displayed on notice boards.
• An Anti ragging committee was constituted. Anti Ragging squads were appointed who will maintain vigil, oversight and patrolling functions and shall remain mobile, alert and active the time.
• Constitution of Anti ragging committee along with telephone numbers was displayed on notice boards, published in brochure and uploaded on website.
• A mentoring cell consisting of student volunteers was constituted.
• A groups of fresher assigned to the faculty members through students’ mentoring programme who shall interact individually with each member of group for ascertaining the problems.
• Affidavits as per the UGC regulations filled and signed by student and Affidavits as per the UGC regulations filled and signed by parents/guardians were collected from all the students.
• Posters depicting the provisions of penal law applicable to incidents of ragging. and the provisions of UGC regulations and also other law for the time being in force and the punishments thereof were displayed at predominant places.
• Arrangement of Induction and Orientation Programme to facilitate and complement familiarization of fresher’s with the academic environment of the institution.
• Organization of large scale of cultural, sports and other activities to provide a plattorm for fresher’s and seniors to interact in the presence of faculty.
• Undertaking from every employee of the institution including all teaching and non teaching staff, that he/she would report promptly any case of ragging which comes to her/his notice.

The punishment may also include any of the following-

Anti ragging committee shall make an appropriate decision, in regard to punishment or otherwise, depending on the facts of each incident of a ragging nature and the gravity of the incident of ragging. The Ragging Committee may award to those found guilty of one or more of the following punishments-

• Suspension from attending classes and academic privileges
• Withholding/ withdrawing scholarship/ fellowship and other benefits
• Debarring from appearing in any test/ examinations or other evaluation process
• Withholding result
• Debarring from representing the institution in any regional, national or international meet, tournament, youth festival etc.
• Suspension/ expulsion from the hostel
• Cancellation of admission
• Rustication from the institution for period ranging from one to four semesters
• Expulsion from the institution and consequent debarring from admission to any other institution for a specified period.
