NSS Introduction

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India oversees the National Service Scheme (NSS), an initiative for public service that is supported by the government. In 1969, the NSS was introduced at 37 institutions with 40,000 students. Through voluntary community service, the NSS seeks to build students’ personalities and characters. NSS was established in this institution in 2013 to foster the students towards social welfare and unbiased service to society. The goal of NSS volunteers is to ensure that those in need receive support so they can live more comfortably and respectably. NSS’s motto, “Not Me But You,” embodies the spirit of democracy and upholds the necessity of unselfish service, respect for others’ opinions, and compassion for one’s fellow humans.

Presently, the institute has an NSS unit of 100 volunteers approved by Savitribai Phule Pune University. They work in two forms such as Regular Activities and special camping in rural areas for 7 days. NSS unit works in collaboration with the Pimpri-Chinchwad municipal corporation, Hospitals, NGOs, RTO, and other government and nongovernment bodies. The activities conducted by NSS include cleaning campaigns, tree plantation, Gender sensitization awareness, Health and medicine awareness campaigns (Haemoglobin check-ups, Health check-ups, Dental check-ups, menstrual hygiene awareness, etc.), Environmental protection awareness, Donation activities, etc. Mrs Bhagyashree Parande is heading the unit accompanied by Mrs Prachi Dusane.
